This EP release is an early preview of tracks from ACT 1 and 2 of the game, which highlight different styles and genres you can expect through the rest of the soundtrack. The base soundtrack is complete and nearly 3 hours of music (not including the loop-able tracks meant to underscore gameplay.
Every good game needs a title track, and "(Wretched) Dream" is that. It introduces us to the major 'dream' theme that runs throughout the entire soundtrack. And it hits hard.
This is a metal track for a metal game. Something dark and pounding to help fight against the darkness we're going up against.
If you're familiar with the Cthulhu Dreamt backlog, you might also recognize the track in some regards :D
"EDucation By Portal" is on the cinematic song side of the spectrum, and stands to highlight an encounter and scene setting.
"The Morning Star" shows the cinematic orchestral side of the soundtrack and sets a scene in the game. We recorded 2 different orchestras for a handful of the tracks in the Complete OST, and this track features the Prague Orchestra.
"Exploring the Base" is further toward the score side of what you might expect, and will be good listening for scenes like the title describes.
"R'Lyeh" is the namesake island on which Cthulhu Dead Lies Dreaming until he awakens. Which... HE DOES at the beginning of the game 🦑
This track establishes a soundscape for the alien island, and, truly, what would R'Lyeh be without some really heavy and deep doom metal?
"Sky Encounter" is for when it's time to go up against the eldritch, this is what you might expect the cinematic metal track to sound like.
It hits fast, it hits hard, and then it underscores the struggle.
"These Aren't Horses" - There's a particular TRACE in our world that holds a little corner of our heart, and this track in particular highlights why.
A pretty giant easter egg for anyone familiar with the inspiration.
The full soundtrack will include well over two hours of music and contain instrumental songs, game score, and ambient music all with the idea that you can listen as you play, or listen to it on it's own and experience the story.
